Why people choose dental treatment in Turkey
Most people who look into dental treatment in Turkey are weighing up three things: cost, waiting times and the chance to have a large piece of work done in one concentrated stay. Treatment in Turkey generally costs less than in the UK, Ireland or the US, and appointments can be scheduled over consecutive days rather than spread across months.
That said, a dental holiday in Turkey is still a medical trip first. The treatment you receive, and the care you get afterwards, matters far more than the view from your hotel. A good trip starts with an honest plan, realistic timings and a clear idea of what happens if something needs attention after you leave.
Istanbul is a practical base. It has two international airports with direct flights from most of Europe, and our clinic sits on Kennedy Avenue, the coastal road on the European side, a short drive from the historic centre. Details of the journey are on our how to get here page.
Is it safe to get dental work in Turkey?
Dental work in Turkey can be as safe as treatment at home, but safety depends on the clinic and on the treatment plan, not on the country. Turkey has many qualified dentists working to sound clinical standards. It also has clinics that push patients towards more treatment than they need.
The phrase "Turkey teeth" became widely known because some patients had healthy teeth heavily filed down for full crowns when gentler options such as whitening, bonding or thin veneers might have done the job. Read our explanation of what Turkey teeth are before you commit to anything.
Signs of a careful clinic include a proper examination with X-rays before any decision, a written plan that explains why each tooth is being treated, a willingness to suggest less invasive alternatives, and named dentists you can look up. You should never feel rushed into agreeing to treatment on the day you arrive. Our longer article on whether dental treatment in Turkey is safe covers this in more depth.
Planning your dental trip, step by step
- Send photos and questions: Share photos of your teeth, any recent X-rays and your medical history on WhatsApp or by email.
- Receive a free preliminary plan: Our dentists review your case and suggest a treatment option with an estimated number of days in Istanbul.
- Book flights and accommodation: Choose dates with a spare day at the end. We help you arrange accommodation and confirm your airport transfer.
- Examination on arrival: At the clinic you have a free examination and X-ray, then receive a written plan with the total cost. You decide whether to go ahead.
- Treatment and final check: Appointments follow the agreed timetable. Before you leave, your dentist checks your bite and the fit of any new teeth.
- Aftercare at home: Take your records home, see a local dentist for routine check-ups and message us on WhatsApp if anything needs advice.
What our support for international patients includes
Many clinics advertise "all inclusive" dental implant packages in Turkey. We prefer to tell you exactly what we provide and what you arrange yourself, so there are no surprises.
| We provide | You arrange |
|---|---|
| A free preliminary plan from the photos or X-rays you send us on WhatsApp | Your flights to and from Istanbul |
| A free examination and X-ray when you arrive at the clinic | Travel insurance suited to a medical trip |
| A written treatment plan with the total cost before anything starts | Meals, sightseeing and personal spending |
| Airport transfer to and from Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gökçen | Your accommodation booking, with our help if you want it |
| Help choosing and arranging accommodation for your stay | Any visa or entry requirements for your nationality |
| An English-speaking team to answer questions before, during and after treatment | A local dentist for routine check-ups once you are home |
The cost of treatment itself depends on the number of teeth involved, the materials chosen and any extra procedures such as extractions or bone grafting. You will see all of this in writing after your examination, and you are under no obligation to go ahead.
Before you book: what to send us
The more we can see before you travel, the more accurate your plan and your trip length will be. Send the following on WhatsApp to +90 544 835 52 61 or by email to info@beyazgulus.com:
- Photos of your teeth in good daylight: a full smile, teeth together from the front, both sides, and the upper and lower teeth from above and below if you can manage it.
- Any recent X-rays, especially a panoramic (OPG) image. If you don't have one, that is fine; we take X-rays free of charge at the clinic.
- Your medical history: long-term conditions, recent operations, allergies and every medicine you take. Blood thinners, diabetes medication and drugs for bone density matter for surgical treatment.
- What you would like to change and anything that worries you, from a loose crown to the shade of your teeth.
- Your possible travel dates and how flexible they are.
From this we prepare a preliminary plan and an estimate of how many days you need. The final plan is confirmed only after your dentist has examined you in person, because photos cannot show everything.
How many days do you need in Istanbul?
Trip length depends on the treatment, how many teeth are involved and how your mouth heals. The times below are what our dentists usually work to; your own timetable is confirmed after the examination.
| Treatment | Usual time in Istanbul |
|---|---|
| Porcelain or E.max veneers | About 5–7 days |
| Zirconia crowns | About 5–10 days |
| Smile makeover | 2–4 weeks of treatment time in total, in one longer stay or two trips |
| Dental implants | Two trips over roughly 3–6 months |
| Root canal treatment | 1–3 sessions, often over a few days |
| In-clinic teeth whitening | A single visit of about 45–60 minutes |
| Composite bonding | One session per tooth |
| Wisdom tooth removal | A 30–60 minute appointment, plus a few days to check healing |
Build in a spare day or two at the end. A final fitting sometimes needs a small adjustment, and it is better to have that done before you leave than to fly home with a bite that feels wrong. Braces and aligners are a different case: orthodontic treatment usually lasts 12–24 months with regular reviews, so it doesn't fit a single holiday. Our guide on how long to stay in Turkey for dental work goes through more examples.
Treatments that need two trips
Implant treatment is the main example. On the first trip the implant is placed in the jawbone; the bone then needs time to bond with it, a process called osseointegration, which typically takes three to six months. On the second trip your dentist fits the final crown, bridge or full-arch teeth. Full-arch options such as All-on-4 follow a similar pattern, with temporary teeth in between.
Large smile makeovers are sometimes split as well, for example treating gum problems or root canals first and doing the cosmetic work later. Splitting a plan isn't a sign that something has gone wrong. It is often the safer approach.
If you need two trips, avoid booking the second flight until your dentist has confirmed the healing period. Flexible tickets cost more but can save a great deal of stress.
Travel insurance and flights
Standard travel insurance often excludes treatment you travel abroad to receive, and it may not cover complications that arise from it. Read the policy wording carefully, tell your insurer the purpose of your trip, and consider a policy designed for medical travel if the standard one excludes it.
When booking flights, leave the day of your final appointment free of travel. Flying is usually fine after crowns, veneers or whitening. After extractions or implant surgery your dentist may ask you to wait a day or more, particularly where upper back teeth sit close to the sinuses. Our article on flying after dental treatment explains why.
What to pack for a dental trip
- A written list of your medicines, in their original packaging, with enough for the whole stay plus a few days.
- Any previous dental records or X-rays on your phone or a memory stick.
- A soft toothbrush, unwaxed floss or interdental brushes, and lip balm, since long appointments can leave lips dry.
- Soft foods or a few snacks you know you can eat easily for the first day after surgery.
- Headphones for appointments, and comfortable clothes.
- Copies of your passport and insurance details, kept separately from the originals.
After you fly home
Aftercare is where a dental trip is won or lost. Before you leave, ask us for copies of your X-rays and a written summary of what was done, including the materials used, so that your local dentist has a clear record.
Keep up with brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups with a dentist near home; crowns, veneers and implants all depend on healthy gums. If something feels wrong after you return, such as a high bite, sensitivity that doesn't settle or a chipped edge, message us on WhatsApp with a photo. We will advise you on the next step. Minor adjustments may need a return visit to Istanbul or an appointment with a local dentist, so it helps to know a practice at home that is willing to see you.
